'Give Mom a Monday' Campaign to Make Mother's Day a Three Day Weekend Launches with 1,000 Signatures!

  2012 APR 28 - (VerticalNews.com) -- On Saturday, April 7, local volunteers kicked off the campaign to 'Give Mom a Monday,' the petition to make Mother's Day a three day weekend, as a dozen people fanned out downtown Seattle to gather more than 1,000 signatures. The volunteers were outside Gene Juarez in downtown Seattle asking people to show their appreciation for moms everywhere by signing a petition that proposes Mother's Day Monday, a new holiday to be observed the Monday immediately following Mother's Day.

  "This is an authentic grassroots campaign that truly comes from the heart," said Marketing Manager Leanne Siguenza. "It is real to me because I am a mother and I know how much this would mean to moms everywhere. Moms are 24-7 and we deserve this!"

  The signatures gathered Saturday will be combined with those that are being collected in salons and online and taken both to local and state officials in hopes of giving moms a three day weekend by officially naming May 14th 'Mother's Day Monday.' The hope is that the Monday after Mother's Day each year forward will officially be recognized.

  The petition will launch online April 23 for people to sign at www.genejuarez.com or "Like" the GJ Facebook Page to join the campaign. In the meantime, you can visit your nearby Gene Juarez salon beginning April 16 to sign a petition in person.
